Greetings all . . .
Ahhhhhhh, Island air! How lovely to be back. Madge and I pulled up our Yuma stakes and followed the snowbird route back up to our favourite nest in April. Vancouver Island. Is there ANYWHERE more welcoming and beautiful. There’s just NO place like home, is there?
Having arrived on the shores of Sidney our first delicious task was deciding where we would spend our first few weeks. Madge and I plan on covering a lot of ground this summer but we did want to ease ourselves back into Island life by settling somewhere central and comfortable for a bit before hitting the road again. The best choice for us, after much deliberation, was the Country Maples RV Resort.
Located just 18km north of Duncan off #1 highway, this spot seemed to be just the ticket for two desert-weary ladies. Surrounded by majestic evergreens and bordered by a winding river suitable for swimming, Country Maples was exactly what we were looking for. The Resort boasts wonderful facilities including – Over 160 sites with full/partial services, Clubhouse & Country Store, laundromat & handicapped washroom, large heated pool, horseshoes, 18-hole mini-golf, playground/arcade, satellite-friendly sites, recreation rooms and well-treed sites with plenty of shade. It is part of the Holiday Trails Resorts group – Canada’s Largest RV Resort System. You can make reservations by calling (250)246-2078 on Mondays from 10:00-noon, Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00 and Fridays from 3:00-4:00.
There are so many daytrips that Madge and I can take from our well-positioned temporary home. We’re a mere two miles from the intriguing town of Chemainus with its famous murals and its very entertaining live theatre. We love to poke about in the little antique shops there as well – of course at our age, we have to make sure that we aren’t mistaken for antiques ourselves!
We’ll definitely be doing some of our weekly shopping at Duncan, just 10 minutes to the south. It has a wonderful Saturday market where we load up on fresh and local produce, cheeses, fudge and even fresh flowers to brighten up the RV!
We always enjoy the small seaside town of Ladysmith. This is only a few minutes south of Country Maples and I can assure you that we will be making frequent visits. Madge has been craving the enormous, cream cheese icing topped, fresh and sticky cinnamon buns that can only be purchased at The Old Town Bakery on 1st Avenue. These award-winners are a must for every sweet tooth out there!
Oh, there is just so much to see and do! We can’t wait to settle in, put the kettle on, our feet up and start planning our next few weeks.
TTFN All!
