Puntledge RV Campground
Roada was on the road again, this past October, Madge and I paid a visit to the beautiful Puntledge RV Campground, located adjacent to the Puntledge River, a mere five minute walk from downtown Courtenay. We so enjoyed watching the Salmon Run in the river, and even better was Madge running after them, all of this was just a short walk from our campsite.
Their Full Service rate includes, hydro, water, sewer and cable for just $25.00 per day, Partial Service $22.00, Basic Service is $18.00. We were also intrigued by their offer of pay for 6 days and your 7th day is free, and being British you know my darlings, we definitely took advantage and stayed for the full week.
Madge and I were delighted to discover that not only did they offer a full service RV campground, Puntledge also hosts the NIM NIM Interpretive Centre which incorporates the historic and cultural traditions of the Comox People. This was in fact the original location of the Pentlatch People, and the Centre was named after the late Chief Joe Nim Nim, who also at one time acted as the Indian Police. In addition there was a lovely Handwoven basket that was made by Joe Nim Nim's wife and plenty of their family photos as well as of the Comox People. Along with that we so enjoyed seeing such artifacts as Chief Joe's original beaded headpiece.(Madge of course wanted to give it a go, however Thank goodness she couldn't get at it). In all seriousness my fellow Rv-ers
The Nim Nim Interpretive Centre features a lovely collection of traditional and contemporary North West Coast artwork and crafts. The collection includes masks, paddles, prints, silver jewelry and wood carvings, textiles and clothing all produced by First Nations.
All in all it is a phenomenal site to visit plus it also hosts the Comox Totem pole carved by Vancouver Islands Richard Hunt. It is Open 7 days a week (May through October) And receives the Roada stamp of approval for a recommended Rv-er's destination!
Till we meet again my darlings!
