Destination Teacapan , Mexico with Ken & Sue
In preparation for our journey south in mid November, Ken & I start packing in October and I must admit I can pack a lost of stuff into our 24ft 5 th wheel, as we take virtually everything we would ever want! Our main item is food, although you can purchase almost everything that you need in Mexico , but a word of caution the price is almost double than it is here, even on sale! Also at most of the places that we stay they do not have large grocery stores only small “Tiendas” with only basic supplies.
Our favorite crossing point when we are heading out to Mexico is the Victoria to Port Angles connection as you miss the Peace Arch crossing and all of Seattle , as well as the extra you pay for the Black Ball you save on fuel.
As we travel across the United States we manage to stay free all the way thru. Our first night brings us into Squirn, Seven Cedars Casino, departing on morning two we find ourselves in Canyon Ville, Oregon at Seven Feathers. The third night we have landed in Reno, Nevada at the Golden Nugget, then off to Las Vegas for the 4 th night at any Station Casino, but we did manage to stay at the Star Dust, but they are tearing it down this year. Still in Nevada on our 5 th night of travel we have made it to the Riverside Casio in Laughlin. The 6 th evening we are either at Quartzite or the VHF just north of Yuma . All of these are fairly short distances, with the exception of Reno to Vegas, which in we have to stay in Beatty a few time between the Casino and the gas station. From Yuma , you must get up real early and head for Lukeville crossing, which is much easier than Nogales . By 1:00 we arrive at the checkpoint and complete paper work, the off to Santa Anna to visit with our friends Edgar and Anna at their small RV Park.
When we are in Mexico we stay in RV Parks, and have no problem getting into them, as our unit is fairly small, and the older parks were built before the large RV's became popular. But I must admit we have seem some people get into difficulty with the palm tree and small pads.
Our first long stay is at Teacapan just two hours south of Mazatlan . It was just four years ago that Ken & I discovered our little paradise, but sometimes paradise is not always so perfect with the he hen (no see ems) and the damp drives a lot of people away. One of our good friends Rafael who runs a small RV park is always delighted to see us.

The Beauty of Teacapan
We have spent four of our Christmas' here and stop in again on our way north to give away our bicycles away to some of the locals.
Last year the Qualicum Fire Department gave us a small girls bike to give away. It was very hard for us to choose the lucky girl.
We asked our friend, but everyone needs a bike. So we found a group of ladies on the street and asked them who could use it most. In Spanish they chatted amongst themselves and came up with a single mother with three young girls. That was perfect for us and we met them the next day and brought the bike over to their modest home.

The photo says it all!
This year we have five bikes attached to the RV, that we would like the children to have, hope we don't loose them at the border.
Well it is the end of our journey for this year as we arrived back home in mid March, we will then go back to work for eight months to count out the days until we can do it again.
The Island RV Guide would like to thank Ken & Sue for the destination article and looking forward to hearing about their travels in another issue of the Guide. Once again thanks Ken & Sue and have a great trip!
