The 2005 Senior Games

The spirit of athletic competition was alive and well in Duncan for the 2005 BC Senior Games. Active seniors gathered from across BC for a wonderful island hosted event and a week of perfect Cowichan Valley weather..

Local citizen support and more than 175 volunteers from the Island and across BC made it all run smoothly and all of the participants enjoyed their island visit. Arbutus RV answered the call as well, and we were proud to be involved as a corporate sponsor helping make the event possible. Many of the participants were active RV'ers, and stayed in area campgrounds around the South Island , enjoying our beautiful beaches, forests, and views.

Many volunteers were first nation peoples, performing every kind of task, but a game's highlight will be the traditional salmon feast cooked over an open fire pit along with the displays of traditional dances.

Chatting with the senior athletes showed that each one of them had a story to tell about the path that had earned them their place in these games. The seniors were true competitors, and even a few bruises couldn't dampen their high spirits and exceptional level of comradeship.

One of our own, Cal Davies , our Port Alberni branch manager tested his skills at the games. Cal has been a badminton player for a number of years and has competed in various events. The opportunity to participate at home in the Senior Games simply was the icing on the cake. Cal and his partner for mixed doubles made it to the semi-finals and with his partner in men's doubles, was the proud recipient of a games bronze medal. Everyday Cal brings the same dedication to his customers that he brings to his favorite sport, badminton (or is it golf?).

The wonderfully organized event, ran like clockwork, and was a huge success for everyone, but especially for our community of Duncan .

We at Arbutus RV congratulate all the senior athletes and volunteers for a great success, and are proud to have helped in making it possible.
