"Tim & Al's Tool Time Tech Tips "

Summer’s Here!

TIM: Hi RVers, the season is upon is. So Al, what’s up for the summer?
AL: Well, Tim, as we say at our recreation site – It’s BBQ Time!

TIM: I know its BBQ time, Al, but what advice do you have for our readers?
AL: I have great advice Tim. Have you heard about the “RVQ”?

TIM: I have heard of them Al, but why don’t you tell our readers about RVQs.
AL: That would be my pleasure Tim. The RVQ is attached to your RV on a bar that holds it in place. It comes with its own hose and is attached, by the quick connect fitting, to the LPG line that is under the unit. The good folks at Arbutus RV can assist in the purchase and installation of the RVQ.

TIM: Wow, what a system Al! Tell me, what if I go out and buy the RVQ at Arbutus RV and I come home, look at my RV and don’t have the LPG line?
AL: Simple answer to your question Tim. Arbutus RV can install the LPG line with the quick connect valve.

TIM: So what advice do you have for the RVers who travel with portable BBQs?
AL: First make sure the propane bottles are full. There is nothing worse than getting to your site and finding out you have little or no propane to barbeque with. Second, it is very important to have your propane stored in a secure place where it won’t move around or fall over. Third, make sure that when you set up your BBQ you try to be as level as possible.

TIM: Thanks Al. Do you have any more tips for our barbeque fans?
AL: Well Tim, I have a do have a great recipe for all our readers. It’s my famous “Cajun Chicken Burgers”. You need Kaiser buns, skinless chicken breasts, bacon, Swiss & cheddar cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce, mayo and whatever relish you like. Take half a chicken breast, flatten it an marinate it in Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce, white pepper, olive oil and leave it in the fridge overnight. The next day, cook one strip of bacon per burger, barbeque the marinated chicken breasts and top with 1 slice bacon, 1 slice Swiss, 1 slice cheddar. Heat the buns on the grill then put the mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion and prepared chicken burger together and – enjoy!

TIM: Gee Al, I can see why those burgers are famous. You’ve made me hungry, let’s get the BBQ started right away.
AL: Exactly Tim, but first we should have a campfire started before we eat so we can enjoy the whole evening.

TIM: Good thought Al, but campfire bans are being posted around the area.
AL: Tim, the folks at Arbutus have the perfect solution. They sell propane fire pits to give you the perfect, safe campfire that you can enjoy throughout the season. They have two styles to choose from, The Pacific Rim and The Yukon. They both have their own regulator and hose and these fire pits will give you between eight to ten hours of campfire enjoyment on a 20lb tank.

TIM: Well, that sounds fantastic Tim, but with all the fire happening with the RVQ and the fire pit, what precautions should we take?
AL: That’s a very good question Tim. You should have a fire extinguisher beside your cooking and campfire. It should be rated at least 5-B:C to cope with any problems. Again, the people at Arbutus RV can help you with your selections.

TIM: Well, Al. Do you have any other thoughts you’d like to share with our readers?
AL: Yes I do Tim. All of us in the Arbutus family hope everybody has a great summer season. Please remember, at the end of the season, to have your LPG system cleaned by a certified technician, because nasty little creatures love to make nests in your fridge and hot water tank then spend their summer vacation in your propane system! Another good idea is to have your breaks and bearings checked at the same time. Again, we at Arbutus are more than happy to assist you.
